The Costco Banana Saga Continues

Please let me start with, friends you are not alone. I have put a call into the Department of Agriculture trying to get to the bottom of this possible Banananapping of Costco Bananas.

If you need further information, please read more here. If you are with CNN and need an interview, please contact my publicist.

Here's the cold hard evidence friends, yes, 17, I said SEVENTEEN inquiring minds want to know. Oh wait, include me, make that 18 inquiring minds want to know. Let's not forget maybe some blogger friends, so let's up this number to 30, yeah I said it THIRTY people, I feel a movement coming on here.

Please look closely at my keyword data, all pointing to my banana post, a few weeks ago:

Let me say, if you find bananas at a Costco in your town, let me be the one to report it. Leave me a comment, please I will be forever indebted.

  3. Um, pretty sure I've seen bananas at my Costco. Your Costco has rice milk, but mine has bananas. ;)

  5. I was at King Soopers today and they had a sign up in their banana section talking about the banana shortage due to "adverse weather conditions in banana growing regions". I definitely thought of you when I saw that. :) Good luck in your qwest. - KM

  7. Hi. I did find bananas at my Costco in Holbrook,New York this past week. They had been missing for at least a month and I get them all of the time so I was really noticing and annoyed. Anyway they had a very tiny box of green Dole bananas. So I bought a bunch, and they did not get yellow. However, today they got all these crazy brown spots on them overnight, and one of my friends came over and asked what the heck was wrong with my bananas! So we opened one and they looked ripe, but I didn't even want to eat them. They looked diseased or something. I went to Costco again today this time in Lake Grove, NY and found basically the same thing so I bought another bunch of green bananas hopefully these will just get ripe and be normal.

  9. Wow. I will check our local Costco tomorrow, but I bought some today at Target. It is seriously weird that you have no bananas and no reason why.

  10. Yes, I Googled costco banana so you can add another to your count.

Yes, we have no bananas at Costco.

The story from the fruit and vegetable man is that a storm in Ecuador wiped out the trees of the supplier.

  12. Ok, yes, I'm frustrated by the absence of bananas at my Costco, so add me to the stats. :)

However, a "ripe" banana is one with spots. Bananas start as starch and as they ripen, the starch gets converted to sugar. When it's ready, it gets the brown spots. I'm not talking black all over, just the brown spots indicate that the fruit is ripe, not bad and should be thrown out.
