Celestial Seasonings' Gen Mai Cha Saves The Afternoon! Plus, A Giveaway...

I try my best to not get down about the weather, I mean I live in Colorado a place that boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year. But lately it's been colder than average and rainy, with even a few snow storms mixed in for good measure (yes in MAY, sigh). In an attempt to wash away the Winter feeling Spring days, I've been making sure I don't miss tea at 4pm daily. I will admit I drink tea through out the day, but having tea in the late afternoon gives me the little boost I need for the dinner into evening hours. Bonus, green tea is full of antioxidants, which is why I prefer green tea.

I seem to go through phases with my tea selections. Sometimes it's a cup of plain black tea, pure green tea, or maybe a fruity green tea. Lately, I've been enthralled with Celestial Seasonings new Gen Mai Cha tea. I was first turned onto Gen Mai Cha at a Japanese restaurant about 15 years ago and have always kept a box in my pantry ever since. Gen Mai Cha is green tea with toasted rice, Celestial adds Matcha to their blend as well. I never knew the history of Gen Mai Cha, but it's known as the 'People's Tea' because in post-war Japan green tea was scarce, so farmers added toasted rice to stretch the tea. I have always just loved the unique flavor the toasted rice brings to the green tea, it's a very natural compliment.

I have to admit, Celestial Seasonings' version of this traditional Japanese tea is just perfect. I would have a hard time picking out this Boulder produced tea from one produced in Japan. If you love green tea, but are in search of a tea experience out of the ordinary, I would definitely suggest trying Gen Mai Cha. From the moment you open the box to pull out a tea bag and smell the green tea with toasted rice undertones, you just know you're in for a treat.

In case you weren't aware Sleepytime Bear is very tech savvy. Sleeptime Bear/Celestial Seasonings can be found on Facebook and Twitter. I must admit, I do adore the Sleepytime Bear. I love keeping up with all of his funny antics around Boulder. Ps, he even has an iPad, I'm totally jealous.

I love the Honey Vanilla Chamomile in the evening and the cinnamon apple is yummy too.

  1. I love their peach tea mixed with black tea for iced tea. Somehow the peach sweetens it so I don't need more sugar. But, pretty much any tea from CS is awesome. :)

  2. I'm an old school cinnamon apple spice fan. Love mandarin orange spice as well.

And their cold brew teas are wonderful for those of us who prefer our tea iced.

However, I'm more in the mood to complain about this hideous weather in Boulder. Can't. Get. Motivated. To. Do. ANYTHING.

  3. I love Chamomille- LOVE IT My hubby loves it too- in winter, we have a stock of it on hand.

  4. Another favorite of ours is Sleepytime-- with young kids who do not sleep, if you can sneak a little in their milk, that's helpful too!

  5. As far as caffeinated ones, my favorite with my Keurig at work and home are: English Breakfast and Earl Grey. Recently I tried Indian Spice Chai Tea--- YUM! Okay- I can think of 10 more right now but ... another day. Thanks for the opportunity

  6. Chamoille or Sleepytime every night before bed...and peppermint when we're sick!

  7. How funny, I had a cup of my favourite, Gingerbread Spice, this very afternoon!

  8. I love Celestial Seasonings Peppermint herbal tea. It's the best mint tea I've tried.

  9. The Honey Vanilla Chamomile is also amazing. There are so many more that I want to try, I have a tea addiction lol

  10. I love the Honey Vanilla Chamomile in the evening and the cinnamon apple is yummy too.

  11. I love chamomile tea. Also, this weather is making want to drink tea and warm beverages, because it's so cold out! Thanks! Yummy giveaway! :)
